Watson, Michelle. “Provision of Targeted Services for Family History Researchers in Australian University Archives and Special Collections.” Masters, Curtin University, 2020.

This paper presents the findings of a study into how university archives and special collections practitioners plan and provide services to their users, specifically family history researchers. The findings were generated by an online questionnaire and interviews undertaken by the practitioners. A parallel survey of family history researchers gives insight into how effective these processes are from the users perspective. The findings of this study will provide evidence and assistance in improving the provision of users services for university archives and special collections.

Watson, Michelle. “In the Shadow of B.H.P. - Newbold General Refractories.” Honours, University of Newcastle, 1994. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14545520

Refractories play an important part in modern industrial manufacturing. In the early years of the 20th century, Newbold General Refractories was established to support the growing industrial sector in Australia. This work covers the early industrial development of Australia (including the founding of the B.H.P) that allowed the successful foundation of a local refractory industry. It goes on to look at the founding of Newbolds; its economic success and survival during both the post-WW1 and Great Depressions; its links with B.H.P and its growing dominance of the local refractory industry through a series of takeovers that consolidated its position within the industry. There is also a brief survey of the company cultures of both Newbolds and B.H.P and how this affected the running of the respective companies.
